Songs: La Cucaracha

We encourage you to give your child a wide range of musical experiences: singing songs, listening to all kinds of music, dancing at home, attending local musical performances when possible. One of the best (and easiest!) activities is singing with your child. If you don't feel confident about your own singing voice, remember that the more you sing with your child, the more comfortable you'll feel, and the more you'll both enjoy music together. Here is one song we suggest for singing together.

cucaracha

La cucaracha, la cucaracha,

Running up and down the house,

La cucaracha, la cucaracha,

Quiet as a little mouse.

He gets in trouble, a lot of trouble,

Snooping here and everywhere,

La cucaracha, la cucaracha,

Always keeps the cupboard bare.

In Spanish, cucaracha means cockroach (the insects you can see in the picture). Many people have made up their own words to this tune. Try improvising, or making up some words yourself.
